To My Husband
When we were young and newly married,
I thought this the meaning that True Love carried:
Presents of perfume, candy and flowers,
Lacey Valentines and dream castle towers.

But I have learned as our love matures
That there's more to lasting love like ours:
Caring for babies and sharing the flu,
Remembering to say that I love you.
For we've good years behind us, And we're looking ahead.
Not just taking love from marriage, But giving it instead.

Dear, it's nice to know, After all this time,
That you're still my special Valentine.

We're Pregnant... again!

Lucas, as a joke when we found out we were having twins, said we would eventually end up with fifteen kids. I wasn't fully amused at the time, though I have joked about it endlessly with him since. The twins aren't even two yet and already I find myself wondering if maybe, just maybe, he was right?

It was about two weeks ago that he started to notice signs of pregnancy. I hadn't noticed myself, too preoccupied chasing around the twins to think twice about it all. On Friday, the 13th (HA! FIGURES!) my doctor called with my test results confirming his notion. I, Gretchen Rembrandt, am here by pregnant with my third child!

So yes, yay, wooh! Happy snoopy dance and all that. To be honest I'm still a little flustered, I had not expected my first two years of marriage to consist of forever being barefoot and pregnant but I guess that's how my marriage will work. HAHA Lucas somehow turned me into a house wife and now will keep babies popping out to ensure I don't end up back at work again. I swear, this is an evil plot he came up with or something.

But truly, yes, we're excited. I haven't decided if I want another little boy or another little girl. We have a lot to learn and a lot to do before the new ones arrives in the beginning of October. Wow... that doesn't feel that far away actually. Doctor estimates October 9th. Of course since the twins were REALLY early, I'm prepared for the child to pop out more like end of August, early September. But we'll see. Hopefully this pregnancy will go a lot smoother then the last.

... I need dill pickles.

History; Born and raised in the sunny city of San Francisco, California, Gretchen has lived a life that isn't too different from any others. True she was only allowed to speak English when friends we're over or when she was at school, and it is true that she was directed to take Latin classes along with ballet classes and piano classes the whole time growing up - but on a whole, ignoring the very intellectually driven house hold she grew up in, she was just like everyone else. Well... at least she was due to her best friends. They kept her common and grounded, something she is grateful for though her parents aren't.

The story of her friends indeed begins from a young age. Living on a street with few children, Gretchen found only three other people her age, each of them of course being male. Though at first they complained about her tagging along when they played sports or dug holes or collected bugs, by the age of six the boys found themselves more upset if she didn't want to. From throwing stones at her window to wake her up to go to their sleep overs to scaring off her tutors so she could come out and play, whatever the three boys did, Gretchen had no choice but to follow... not that she objected ever.

And that was life. Though years came and gone, one thing was always consistent, her and her boys. From middle school to high school, from first kisses to dating to whatever else you can imagine. Gretchen was always with her guys. Which of course was interesting the most in high school when they all began to date people. At first their were tensions, Gretchen finding herself insanely jealous every time a guy blew her off for his girlfriend at first, however that eventually died out when she found guys herself. They all found their own outlets, be it sports, cars, music, or the opposite sex, each of them found their own niche in life which has worked well for them.

Graduation eventually came and the group has grown apart some. Sure they speak on a nearly daily bases, make plans to see each other at least twice a week, and half the time crash at each others places, but things have indeed changed. Perhaps it was college that brought these changes about, causing them to declare a little independence from each other. Or maybe it's just how life works, you grow up and drift apart slightly. Either way though, things are still well.

Since college a LOT has happened. While she has her own business with her college roommate Daniella. For the first several years after college she lived with Lucas as just friends while continuing her attempts at a relationship with high school sweet heart Scott. However one out there night with Lucas ended that. She ended up cheating on Scott with Lucas and two months later on November 27, 2006 she married Lucas in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was about nine months later that twins LJ & September blessed there small growing family.

These day Gretchen spends most of her times with the babies. She still has a stake in the company though she works more as a part time consultant. She loves her kids and husband, not knowing what she would do without them. She enjoys being the housewife she never thought she would become and loves that uncle Hunter comes by daily to bug her and keep her from becoming all mommy all the time.

Several Random Facts About Gretchen

  1. In the past Gretchen would have told anyone she was in love with all three of her childhood best friends. But since her and Lucas moved past friendship after September 5th... well... let's just say Hunter and Scott will always be special to her but they could never ever take the place of Lucas. Lucas is not only her husband, best friend, and father of her children - but he's everything she always needed and wanted but never knew about.

  2. Interior Design is by far the worse career idea ever in her parents opinion... and yet she has redone over four rooms in their house for them.

  3. Gretchen has an intense fear of snakes & needles. She has been known to faint or puke at the site of either. She is also uncomfortable with the site of Blood.

  4. Every Monday night Hunter joins Lucas & Gretchen for Chinese food and gossip. On Thursdays the threesome bar-be-ques, has a couple beers, and gossips some more.

  5. Weddings, marriage, and babies are her three worse fears Gretchen had up until the day she was married. She never wanted to participate in any of the three, something which made past relationships hard on her.

  6. Besides Lucas, Gretchen has had four other serious relationships. Each has ended badly when the guy has made the mistake of asking her to move in, asking her to marry him, or asking her not to get an abortion.

  7. Gretchen had an abortion at twenty-three. She still doesn't talk about it and probably never will.
